Cavs, Lakers Favored in NBA Playoffs as ‘Crazy’ Offseason Lo

New postby sunday26 » 16 Apr 2010, 21:48

April 16 (Bloomberg) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers assume familiar roles as top seeds entering the National Basketball Association playoffs this weekendyouth NBA jersey. Next year, that might picture might be very different.
While the Cavaliers and defending champion Lakers are the oddsmakers’ favorites to capture the title, free agency may shake up the power structure atop the NBA this offseason, resulting in new teams among the elite.
The New York KnicksNBA jersey, whose playoff drought grew to six years, and the New Jersey Nets, who worked just to avoid a record-setting losing season, are among franchises that cleared salary-cap space entering this summer, when All-Stars such as Cleveland’s LeBron James can become unrestricted free agents.
“One word that comes to mind is crazycheap NBA jerseys, another is unpredictable,” Steve Smith, an analyst for NBA TV, said about how this offseason may shape up and affect the future of the league. “It’s going to come down to those teams that have cap room, city appeal and team appeal. That could change the whole dynamic.”
James, 25, is among eight 2010 All-Star Game participants who can become unrestricted free agents after the season. The rest are Miami’s Dwyane Wade, Toronto’s Chris Bosh, Atlanta’s Joe Johnson, Phoenix’s Amar’e Stoudemire, New York’s David Lee, Boston’s Paul Pierce and Dallas’s Dirk Nowitzki.
James’s Year?
James averaged 29.7 points, 8.6 assists and 7.3 rebounds a game this season, his seventh since joining the Cavaliers out of high schoolwholesale NBA jerseys. Cleveland faces the Chicago Bulls -- another team seeking an offseason roster overhaul -- in the opening round of the playoffs, with Game 1 of the best-of-seven series on April 18.
James, last season’s Most Valuable Player, hasn’t been on an NBA championship team since he started playing in the league in 2003. That may change for him this year, said Smith, a former NBA All-Star who won a title with the San Antonio Spurs.
“It looks like LeBron’s year,” Smith said in a telephone interview. “Anything goes in the playoffs, but starting right now, the way things have been going, it looks like Cleveland.”
The Cavaliers are an 8-5 favorite to win the titlecheap NBA jersey, according to Las Vegas Sports Consultants, which helps Nevada sports books set gambling lines. The Lakers are the second favorite at 2-1, meaning a winning $10 bet on Los Angeles to repeat as champion would return $20 along with the initial wager. The Lakers, led by Kobe Bryant, had slightly shorter odds than Cleveland entering the campaign.
‘Slippery Slope’
As for future seasons, the dominant team is anybody’s guess.
“Once the playoffs start, there are places that ask us for next year’s NBA odds, and this year that’s a slippery slope,” Tony Sinisi, the odds director for Las Vegas Sports Consultants, said in a telephone interview.
The Knicks, for example, entered this NBA season with 100-1 odds to win their first title since 1973. Despite finishing with a 29-53 record, they’d have somewhere around 15-1 odds for next year, Sinisi said.
“Even though it’s not a certainty the Knicks are going to get Wade or LeBron, you don’t want to hang a 100-1 if there’s a chance they might,” Sinisi said.
James, the youngest player to score 15,000 points in NBA history, will be the most coveted free agent. Whether he wins an NBA title this year might go a long way toward shaping his offseason decision.
“That’s when we’ll really find out LeBron James’s personality,” said Smith. “If he wins a championship, they have all the pieces set to make a run. Or does he say, ‘I’ve won a championship, let me move on to a place where I want to live and play, because I have the ring under my belt and I can do it again.

Why an Effective Rushing Attack Is Still Important in the NF

For the most part, the NFL has diverted away from the traditional smash-mouth offenses, and instead transitioned into a quarterback-driven league.
A quarterback is the leader of the entire team and is responsible for making crucial decisions for the offense. Without a franchise quarterback, it’s tough to be a competitive unit.
Taking a look at the top 10 passing offenses, eight of those teams were in the playoffs. Nonetheless, the defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints were not only fourth in the league in passing, but sixth in rushing as well. ed hardy clothing
Having a balanced offense is an integral key to success. In general, it keeps the opposition honest.
A potent ground game can truly compliment your aerial attack, as it draws extra defenders into the box, ultimately opening up opportunities down field. Moreover, when your opponent doesn’t know what to expect, it makes stopping you much tougher.
In addition, it takes immense pressure off your quarterback’s shoulders. Having to carry the entire group and throw the ball 40 times a game will effect a player, both physically and mentally.
Due to human nature, we all strive for that ’sidekick’ who we can rely on to help us along down the stretch. We often realize that doing everything by ourselves isn’t realistic nor efficient. The league’s leader in passer rating, Drew Brees, had one of the best rushing attacks to help him succeed.louboutin shoes
Finally, while this may surprise some, having an effective running game can even help your defense. A team’s rushing attack helps convert critical downs and move the chains. As a result, added time is burned off the clock. Ultimately, this forces the opposing defense to remain on the field, while your’s rests patiently on the sidelines.
A prime example of this is the New York Jets. Even though they had an inexperienced rookie QB in Mark Sanchez, they were able to make a deep playoff push, all the way to the AFC Championship Game. A primary reason for this was their top ranked rushing offense and No. 1 ranked defense. jordan shoes
Statistically speaking, the two go hand in hand, as five of the top nine rushing offenses were among the top ten defenses as well. NHL jerseys
Finally, in order to win the ultimate prize—the Lombardi Trophy—a powerful rushing game is typical. In fact, four of the past five Super Bowl winners have ranked in the top six of the league in terms of rushing yards per game.
As you can see, having an effective rushing attack, and more importantly a balanced offense, is still important.
For every Peyton Manning and Tom Brady out there, the league still has an Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson. Without them, the game of football that we have come to love and cherish would never be the same.nfl jerseys

Love It or Not, How Kobe Bryant Became America’s Favorite At

New postby sunday26 » 30 Jul 2010, 22:15

Once upon a time there was a man named Kobe Bryant.
Kobe played basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers. During the summer of 2007, Bryant let the team know that he was not happy with the direction that the team was headed.
Having experienced two straight post-season butt-kickings that were worse than anything Mel Gibson had experienced in any of his films, the Lakers looked as if they would remain at ground zero.wholesale NFL jerseys
After a summer that saw Kobe demanding trades, backing down, and then doing the whole thing over again, the question of what Bryant wanted would have made Inception seem transparent in comparison.
Twenty trade demands and reversals later, Kobe ultimately decided to remain in the city of Angels.nfl jerseys
The regular season eventually arrived to find Number 24 still donning purple & gold. Stranger still, it seemed as if Kobe was actually enjoying playing team ball for the first time. After 37 games, the Lakers held a surprising record of 26-11.ed hardy clothing
The good vibe was palpable, and reminiscent of the good old days when the Lakers had been contenders. But LA would soon be brought down from the clouds—O.K., ‘billowing plumes of smog’, it is LA, after all), losing starting center Andrew Bynum to a knee injury…Suddenly the Lakers found themselves in desperate need of a big man.
On February 1st, team GM Mitch Kupchak managed to pull off a trade more lopsided than DJ Mbenga’s face. The Lakers said ‘hola’ to the lanky Spaniard Pau Gasol, and ‘adios’ to Kwame Brown, who, in his short stint in L.A., had proved to be as useful on the court as a pet rock.
In Gasol’s first game, Bryant dislocated the little finger on his shooting hand, but, thanks to a balanced night of different Lakers putting the ball in the hoop, LA walked away with the win.
With Gasol in the line-up the Lakers showed themselves as clear contenders, going on to win 27 of their last 34.
Kobe capped a brilliant season for both himself and his team by winning his very first MVP award. (‘bout damn time!)
But even having the Western Conference’s best record the Lakers were not considered the favorites going into the post-season. That honor went to the team with the NBA’s best record and L.A.’s long-time rival Boston Celtics.jordan shoes
Favorites or not, the C’s were forced to play 20 of a possible 21 games before attaining the Eastern Conference crown. The Lakers on the other breezed their way through the first three rounds, posting a post-season record of 12-3 on their way to the Western Conference championship.
For the 11th time in NBA history it would be a Lakers-Celtics final, and the intensity of this rivalry could be felt from the opening moments of game one.
The Celtics came out victorious in the first game, which featured the worst ‘Willis Reed wanna-be’ moment in NBA history. What’s more, the person faking the injury was nicknamed “The Truth”. Oh, the irony…
Attention, all you young players out there: for future reference, when you’re writhing in agony over your alleged injury, make sure to get carried off the court and then put in a wheelchair; re-entering the game at some point tends to weaken your case.*
On to game two. The Celtics, again came out victorious in a game where Leon Powe (yes, he still plays) appeared to break Michael Jordan’s unofficial record for getting favorable foul calls.
As the scene moved to L.A. for game three, the Lakers were determined to get back into the series. And, sure enough, Kobe & Co. brought to the game the level of intensity necessary to get the job done and walk away with the W.
The Lakers now had the chance to even the series. By half time in game four, it seemed as if that prospect was well on the way to becoming a reality. Los Angeles led by as much as 24 at one point, but the Lake Show then proceeded to throw up a second-half performance that rivaled Snoop Dog’s rapping in “California Gurls”.
When the dust had settled, the C’s were only one win away from raising banner number 17. The Lakers somehow managed to squeak out a win in game five, and whittle down Boston’s series lead from two games to one.
The series shifted to Boston for what would be the last game. From the outset the Lakers played like they’d left their best back in L.A. They were beat to loose balls, rebounds, and every other possible ‘something-to-get-beat-in’ category. The Lakers simply didn’t have it, and didn’t seem to want it, so the Celtics took it. louboutin shoes
With only 53 seconds away from the end, the game had to be stopped for a spill on the court: Paul Pierce had dumped the Gatorade container on head coach Doc Rivers… Very nice. Maybe next time a victory lap, complete with back-flips? When the mops were finally retired and the game was able to run its course the final score read 131-92. Championship number 17: signed, sealed and delivered.
To add a little more salt to the wound, the inevitable post-game interview with Kevin Garnett featured the equally inevitable ‘looking ahead’ question. Did he foresee a repeat? “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!” was the reply.
Bryant and the Lakers then slunk off the court for the final time that season.

MLB Trade Rumors - Cincinnati’s Jay Bruce to Kansas City for

New postby sunday26 » 02 Aug 2010, 23:38

That’s Jay Bruce trying to use his Jedi mind trick on an umpire, “No, you did not just see me swing at a ball that was three-feet over my head.”cheap NFL jerseys
There is no doubt Bruce has potential. Unfortunately, potential and seven bucks will only buy you a hopper full of movie theater popcorn.
The Reds have around a three year window before they start going broke with big money extension or arbitration cases.
If Cincinnati does not lock Joey Votto down to a multi-year deal, the improving but already paltry attendance will drop to Florida Marlins level.NBA jerseys
Even though Bruce still gets the obligatory, “BRUUUUUUCE,” chant when as he steps in the box, now is the time to trade him. Fan morale would not decrease if a top-notch closer were to join the club.
At 23, Bruce still has a tremendous upside. And, not being a soothsayer, it’s impossible to tell whether or not that upside will ever be seen.
Right now though, with the Reds’ regular season 57.4 percent done, Bruce is on pace to hit 19 home runs with around 158 strikeouts—158 Ks is pretty decent for a soft tossing pitcher—for an offensive player on pace to hit 19 home runs…it’s flat-out worthless.
Now if Bruce were on pace to jack 40-45 bleacher balls, it’d be a totally different story—one not especially as deplorable.
Defensively, Jay Bruce is at the top of the MLB right fielder class. He cuts balls off, and has an absolute cannon—even some of the fastest players in the league will not test his left arm.
Kansas City does not have a right fielder. Yes, they do play someone out there. This year it has been, for the most part, natural center fielder David DeJesus. ed hardy clothing
Joakim Soria is a stallion closer. His talent is wasted in Kansas City.
How valuable is a save when when it is for a team 13 games below .500, and 1.5 games out of last place? wholesale NFL jerseys
The Reds current closer Coco Cordero has not only been directly responsible for many heart attacks in the Cincinnati area, but he is also under contract for next year. And even if Coco’s cousin were an MLB general manager—there is no way he would take the aged and overweight closer with a price tag of $14 million.jordan shoes
The only viable solution for the Reds will be to obtain a lesser priced super star closer (Soria) and just toss Coco into middle relief. And they should do this as soon as possible.
Jay Bruce for Joakim Soria.
